GDL mobile app goes live in Northern Ireland

The mobile app supporting the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) learning programme for learner drivers went live on 1 October.

Built with Fujitsu

Developed in partnership with Fujitsu, who developed the app, Jellylearn produced more than 100 2D and 3D animated clips. The content provided a wide range of training and learning experiences for a learner so that they could become a more responsible, courteous and road safety aware driver prior to taking their test.

Why it matters

GDL is expected to deliver social and economic benefits to Northern Ireland by reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on its roads. Those drivers targeted with this programme are aged between 16-24 as they have the highest proportion of KSI casualties of any age group, at 20.2%. As the first part of the UK to launch the scheme, Northern Ireland is likely to be closely watched by stakeholders and politicians elsewhere in the UK.
